The inspiration behind this design comes from the struggles my community continues to face during the rise of ICE operations and the ongoing targeting of immigrant families. Growing up, I witnessed the pain and uncertainty that comes with being part of a community that lives in fear of being separated. That pain became personal when my father was taken from us because of this unjust system. The experience left a deep mark on me, and it’s something that shaped who I am today — not just as an artist, but as a person who carries both strength and sorrow through creativity.
When creating this design, I wanted to channel that emotion into something powerful, something that represents both resilience and identity. That’s when I thought of luchadors — Mexican wrestlers who embody courage, perseverance, and pride. To me, luchadors represent my father, myself, and every family that’s ever had to keep fighting no matter how many challenges stood in their way. They wear their masks not to hide, but to show strength, unity, and a shared identity. Behind every mask is a story of struggle and resistance, and that’s exactly what I wanted this piece to capture.
Through color, symbolism, and detail, this design becomes more than just artwork — it’s a statement. It reflects the beauty of Mexican culture and the fighting spirit that defines it. Every stroke is a reminder that our culture is full of art, heart, and passion, even in the face of pain. The luchador symbolizes the fight to stay strong when everything feels stacked against you, the will to keep going for your family, and the pride of where you come from.
This piece is deeply personal. It’s a way to honor my father and all the people whose voices often go unheard. I wanted to create something that speaks to those who feel unseen, to remind them that we are still here, still proud, and still fighting. This design is not only a reflection of my story, but also of the countless others who share it — a visual tribute to strength, love, and the unbreakable spirit of my community.
