When this competition was first announced, I was coming off a wave of intense burnout from a string of big projects. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d have the energy, or even the motivation, to join in. But after sketching out a few concepts (and realizing time wasn’t exactly on my side), I decided to lean into the feeling itself. I created a burnt and flame-inspired design as both a reflection of that burnout and a symbol of re-ignition.
I started by dyeing the sneakers in a smoky grey-to-black gradient, setting the stage with a charred, weathered look. Then I added burned detailing to the front to capture the rawness of exhaustion. Finally, I painted stylized flames across the back, representing my determination to rise from the ashes and keep creating, burnout and all.
