Reconstruction Through Craft and Culture
I’m Joe Allan, also known as @_joeallan and The Cactus Gentleman — a designer who reimagines sneakers through reconstruction, craftsmanship, and sustainable materials. Working primarily with cactus leather, denim, and recycled fabrics, my process goes beyond surface customization. I deconstruct sneakers to understand their structure, then rebuild them from the ground up — transforming familiar silhouettes into handcrafted pieces that carry new meaning. My creative journey began in jewelry design, where I developed precision, patience, and a deep respect for materials. Those early lessons now shape every sneaker I build. Each pair is stitched, assembled, and constructed by hand, blending texture, cultural influence, and storytelling into wearable art. Cactus leather has been part of my practice since 2021, marking the beginning of my shoemaking journey. It represents more than sustainability — it represents growth, experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of what sneakers can be made from. Through The Cactus Gentleman, I create soulful, sustainable sneakers that reflect creativity, resourcefulness, and intentional design. Every build is fully hands-on — not just customized, but reconstructed with purpose.
